An image from the Middle East Media Research Institute revealing Egyptian coins tracked to the time of Joseph

Egyptian coins carrying the name of Joseph, the biblical patriarch whose arrival in Egypt as a slave eventually provided salvation for his family during decades of drought

across the Middle East, have been discovered in a cache of antique items shelved in boxes in a museum, according to a new report.

The report from the Middle East Media Research Institute said the coins with Joseph's name and image were found in a pile of unsorted artifacts that had been stored at the Museum of Egypt.

MEMRI, which monitors and translates reports from Middle East publications and broadcasters, said the original report was in Egypt's Al Ahram newspaper in Cairo.

The newspaper said the discovery countered claims by some historians that coins were not used for trade in Egypt at the time the Bible records Joseph and the Jews migrated there.

Those historians have argued that trade was done by barter.

But researchers told the newspaper the minting dates of the coins in the cache have been matched to the period in which Joseph was recorded to be in Egypt.

"A thorough examination revealed that the coins bore the year in which they were minted and their value, or effigies of the pharaohs [who ruled] at the time of their minting. Some of the coins are from the time when Joseph lived in Egypt, and bear his name and portrait," said the newspaper report.

The report carried an explanation of the discovery by a team involving researcher Sa'id Muhammad Thabet:

"Studies by Dr. Thabet's team have revealed that what most archeologists took for a kind of charm, and others took for an ornament or adornment, is actually a coin. Several [facts led them to this conclusion]: first, [the fact that] many such coins have been found at various [archeological sites], and also [the fact that] they are round or oval in shape, and have two faces: one with an inscription, called the inscribed face, and one with an image, called the engraved face – just like the coins we use today," said the report.

The newspaper called the find "unprecedented" and said, "The researchers discovered the coins when they sifted through thousands of small archeological artifacts stored in [the vaults of] the Museum of Egypt."

The Egyptian newspaper noted that the Quran indicates clearly "that coins were used in Egypt in the time of Joseph."

The report continued, "Research team head Dr. Sa'id Muhammad Thabet said that during his archeological research on the Prophet Joseph, he had discovered in the vaults of the [Egyptian] Antiquities Authority and of the National Museum many charms from various eras before and after the period of Joseph, including one that bore his effigy as the minister of the treasury in the Egyptian pharaoh's court…"

The report continued, "According to Dr. Thabet, his studies are based on publications about the Third Dynasty, one of which states that the Egyptian coin of the time was called a deben and was worth one-fourth of a gram of gold. This coin is mentioned in a letter by a man named Thot-Nehet, a royal inspector of the Nile bridges. In letters to his son, he mentioned leasing lands in return for deben-coins and agricultural produce."

The report explained that other texts from the Third, Sixth and Twelfth Dynasties also talk about coins.

"The archeological finding is also based on the fact that the inscribed face bore the name of Egypt, a date, and a value, while the engraved face bore the name and image of one of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs or gods, or else a symbol connected with these. Another telling fact is that the coins come in different sizes and are made of different materials, including ivory, precious stones, copper, silver, gold, etc." the newspaper reported.

The museum research uncovered 500 of the coins "carelessly" stored in boxes.

One even had the image of a cow "symbolizing Pharaoh's dream about the seven fat cows and seven lean cows, and the seven green stalks of grain and seven dry talks of grain," the report said.

"Joseph's name appears twice on this coin, written in hieroglyphs: once the original name, Joseph, and once his Egyptian name, Saba Sabani, which was given to him by Pharaoh when he became treasurer. There is also an image of Joseph, who was part of the Egyptian administration at the time," the report said.

Was Roger Babson Right?

{Editors Note: Herbert Armstrong died in 1986 at the age of 96. Armstrong, and his son Garner Ted were years ahead of their time when it came to foretelling what would happen in the world. They predicted long before anyone else of the coming European Union (in 1934!) They were able to do this by reading and understanding the Bible. Armstrong ran a publication called THE PLAIN TRUTH. At its zenith, it was one of the most read magazines in the world with a subscription of some 17 million copies a month. Although our Plain Truth website has NOTHING to do with Armstrong or any Church (we are NOT a church organization) we do try and show our readers that to understand the news, one must understand God and HIS word. All the answers are there....  Here is an excerpt from a letter that is some 25 years old! How it rings true. What is the real cause of the depression (yes that it what we have!) we are in? Read on and see if the following letter doesn't speak for today!}

By Herbert W. Armstrong early 1980's
I have to tell you now that the outlook for the United States and the entire world is bleak and foreboding indeed in the years to come! Based on world news, observation and personal contacts with world leaders--based on Bible prophecy and a long life of experience, I have to tell you now that the entire world economy will be in a drastic nose dive.

Civilization itself is stricken with spiritual, moral and economic sickness UNTO ITS DEATH--THE END OF THIS WORLD!

Bible prophecy shows WHAT soon shall occur--WHY the world is now sick on its deathbed--WHY the RISING UNEMPLOYMENT, the SICK ECONOMY, the immorality, crime, violence and world evils.

I have seen much of this in 90 years of event-packed experience.

In November, 1919, I was a member of the Chicago Association of Commerce. At a regular weekly membership luncheon, the noted Boston statistician and economist, Roger Babson, was guest speaker. He astonished major bank officials and industrial leaders saying that in one year we would experience the most drastic depression our generation had known. Economic executives ridiculed. We were then in an upward trend of prosperity.

A year later Roger Babson again was our guest speaker. He said, "The year has passed, and I am back and depression is here with me." There was no ridicule or laughter, and Babson told us why he knew, and why business and financial executives did not.

"When I want to know what the temperature in this room is going to be an hour or two from now I don't consult the thermometer on the wall. I go to the boiler room and see what is going on down there. I go to the factor that CAUSES the future temperature. You men were looking at bank clearings, retail sales, wholesale indexes, stock car loadings and trends--the thermometers on the wall."
But Mr. Babson said he had learned that when 51 percent or more of the people were righteous in their dealings with one another, prosperity was just ahead. But when 51 percent or more of the people were unrighteous in their dealings, economic depression was coming.

Was Roger Babson right?

In January, 1914, I was in the editorial department of a national magazine--the nation's largest trade journal. I was assigned to cover the story of the very beginning of the conveyer-belt assembly-line mass-production system at the Ford Motor Company plant in Detroit. Ford initiated this system of mass machine production. At that time only the U.S. provided a mass market for such mass production.

Soon other auto companies followed suit, and then virtually all American production in other lines. This swelled profits enormously for capital and management. But labor unionism immediately engaged in a crusade of strikes to raise wages. Also labor leaders adopted the false philosophy of "GET" instead of cooperation and sharing. Labor union wars ensued, like the Herrin, Illinois, coal mine massacre, in which more than 20 were murdered and many injured. Labor turned to the attitude that the employer was the enemy--slow down your work, give as little as you can get away with, then fight with the weapon of the strike to increase wages and lower hours of work.

Result? The quality of industrial production diminished.

Meanwhile a burgeoning affluent middle class--also motivated by the way of "get"--developed in the United States. Before World War II the United States had mounted to a position of wealth and power such as no nation ever possessed.

God had blessed us with the natural resources. Selfishness and greed on the part of both management and labor temporarily increased our prosperity. But those very evils are now bringing this country DOWN!

As late as 1969, the American wage was three times that of England and four times that of Japan.

Meanwhile, the Common Market (EEC) in Europe gave that continent a mass market for mass machine production--AT LOW-COST LABOR. Even with machine production, labor had to direct the machines and remained the largest item of cost in production. Development of modern transportation gave Japan a mass market--in fact, a world market. Now Europe and Japan compete with mass production and LOW-cost labor against the U.S. with its high-cost labor. Not only that, but both in Japan and West Germany, labor is patriotic, regarding conscientious work as a duty to their country. Result, Japan and West Germany export to the U.S., underselling U.S. competition with better quality merchandise.

In 1970 Prime Minister Sato of Japan told me he foresaw and feared a real trade war with the U.S., and hoped it would not happen. It is HERE! Japan has figuratively bombed and almost destroyed Detroit. I am leaving Monday on a Far East trip, and expect to discuss this situation with Prime Minister Nakasone in Tokyo. He just departed from talks with President Reagan in Washington yesterday--apparently with no good results for the U.S.

Again, was Roger Babson right?

What does your BIBLE say? What does GOD say?

Actually applying to our nation, God says, Deuteronomy 28:1, "IF thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Eternal thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments ... the Eternal thy God will set thee on high ABOVE all nations of the earth." In Deuteronomy 4:40: "Thou shalt keep therefore ... his commandments ... that it MAY GO WELL WITH THEE .... "

In many scriptures God tells us he prospers those whose ways please him. But our people as a nation have not obeyed God. The whole world has been founded and built on the philosophies and ways of life of Satan, not of God. This has been SATAN'S WORLD--not God's. But the CHURCH OF GOD IS God's world in embryo--begotten but not yet born. We are called--drafted--to be trained to be teachers and rulers in the world to come.

When THIS WORK pleases him, he prospers it. He has been getting us back on the track. We have just closed a RECORD-BREAKING year.

The world has NOT lived God's way. Now the final result of the selfish way of living is converging on the whole world in its final climax at the END of this world.

Is there trouble in Oprah's TV kingdom?

The Plain Truth predicted this a year ago!

Oprah Winfrey is opening her talk show's 24th season with a flourish. One week of programs include a Chicago block party with the Black Eyed Peas, an exclusive Whitney Houston interview, her first Dr. Phil visit in seven years and a trip to New York.

It's hard to remember when it seemed more important.

Winfrey is still the queen of daytime television, but the aura of invincibility is gone. The average viewership for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" slipped under 7 million last season, down 7 percent from the year before, according to Nielsen Media Research. One week during the July rerun season, the show had its lowest ratings since its 1985 debut.

There are many possible explanations for the fade, including some over which Winfrey has no control. Ratings declines are common with so many choices and demands on time, particularly during the day. It's even rarer for programs that have been on the air as long as Winfrey's to grow. MORE>>>>>>>>

The Plain Truth Marches on Washington DC on 9/12

AMERICAN'S FIGHT FOR AMERICA!!

Forward By Tammy Miller:

Look for Bob & Tammy Barney in this video from CNN. You can see their two signs they made "Fire the Czars" & "ThePlainTruth.Com" They are there with hundreds of thousands of other tea party members and people who aren't tea party members who just want to take this country back from the over spending, over taxing, over controlling regime that took office in January. They were the silent majority who never spoke up, well they are silent no more. They are there protesting for the future of this country and the future of their kids and grand-kids. CNN by the way has done a great job covering this protest, and from what I have seen so far in a very unbiased way.

Tea Party Express roars to D.C.

When the "tea party" movement kicked off in April to protest record federal spending bills, trillion-dollar deficits and higher tax burdens, its members were fiercely independent and opposed any suggestion that they bond with a larger umbrella group, preferring to work within their local communities.

But that go-it-alone approach is changing as a result of the war over health care, and the Tea Party Express tour is leading the way.

The Tea Party Express - a caravan of buses, speakers and entertainers who have been holding protest rallies in cities and towns across the country - is heading to Washington, where on Saturday, up to 50,000 demonstrators are expected to march on the Capitol in a full-scale political offensive to persuade lawmakers to reject the health care overhaul bills that are pending in the House and Senate.  MORE>>>>>>

A page from the earliest surviving Bible, of which another fragment has been discovered in Egypt

A British-based academic has uncovered a fragment of the world's oldest Bible hiding underneath the binding of an 18th-century book.

Nikolas Sarris spotted a previously unseen section of the Codex Sinaiticus, which dates from about AD350, as he was trawling through photographs of manuscripts in the library of St Catherine's Monastery in Egypt.

The Codex, handwritten in Greek on animal skin, is the earliest known version of the Bible. Leaves from the priceless tome are divided between four institutions, including St Catherine's Monastery and the British Library, which has held the largest section of the ancient Bible since the Soviet Union sold its collection to Britain in 1933.  MORE>>>>>>>

'Massive' ancient wall uncovered in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- An archaeological dig in Jerusalem has turned up a 3,700-year-old wall that is the largest and oldest of its kind found in the region, experts say.

The wall is built of enormous boulders, confounding archaeologists as to how ancient peoples built it.

The wall is built of enormous boulders, confounding archaeologists as to how ancient peoples built it.

Standing 8 meters (26 feet) high, the wall of huge cut stones is a marvel to archaeologists.

"To build straight walls up 8 meters ... I don't know how to do it today without mechanical equipment," said the excavation's director, Ronny Reich. "I don't think that any engineer today without electrical power [could] do it."

Archaeologist Eli Shukron of the Israel Antiquities Authority added, "You see all the big boulders -- all the boulders are 4 to 5 tons."

The discovered section is 24 meters (79 feet) long. "However, it is thought the fortification is much longer because it continues west beyond the part that was exposed," the Israel Antiquities Authority said in a news release.

It was found inside the City of David, an archaeological excavation site outside the Old City of East Jerusalem on a slope of the Silwan Valley.

The wall is believed to have been built by the Canaanites, an ancient pagan people who the Bible says inhabited Jerusalem and other parts of the Middle East before the advent of monotheism.Video Watch report on the discovery of the ancient wall »

Jesus, apostles observed Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur

Notes: The dates given for the holiday dates are based on the modern Jewish calendar and NOT the calendar Jesus followed! The dates for Rosh Hashana (Feast of Trumpets) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement are: Sept 16th and Sept 24 (evening) and Sept 25 (daytime). The Plain Truth will have a complete article on these two dates and the meanings of the holidays, as well as God's MANDATE that everyone is to participate in the Feast of Tabernacles - a one week vacation!

Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur are not just Jewish holidays, says a new video series by a Christian teacher of Hebraic roots.

They are called "Feasts of the Lord" in the Bible and have special meaning and significance for all believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They were commemorated by Jesus and His apostles – and continued to be observed by Jesus' followers in the first century even after His death and Resurrection.

Pastor Mark Biltz of El Shaddai Ministries in Washington state has produced, in conjunction with WND Videos, a compelling and exhaustive teaching

series on the biblical feasts as outlined in Leviticus by Moses. The spring and fall feasts, Biltz says, were not intended only for the children of Israel – and they have special meaning with respect to the life, death, resurrection and return of Jesus.

There's still time to learn these important lessons before the fall feasts are past.  MORE>>>>>

Beijing bans organ harvesting - will prisons abide?

Bookmark and Share

China world mapChina has launched an organ donation program because of criticism over harvesting organs from executed prisoners.

The Associated Press reports that well over two-thirds of the organs for transplant in China come from executed prisoners, though only with prior consent. Steven Mosher of the Population Research Institute tells OneNewsNow the Red Cross Society of China is going to start a national organ donation system.

"The problem is that there is no history, there is no tradition of organ donation in China, and very few people are willing to allow their organs to be donated," he explains.

Steve Mosher PRISo Mosher doubts there will be a strong public reaction to the news, even though some Chinese are willing to sell organs. At the same time, the Bureau of Prisons in China makes millions of dollars from organs from executed prisoners. "And I believe the practice will continue because it's such a money-making venture, despite the passage of a law in Beijing forbidding it," he adds. "There's simply too much money at stake here."

Mosher adds that in most instances the prisoners were not scheduled for execution. He contends their sentences are changed by the Bureau of Prisons to immediate execution to supply the demand for organs.

According to Mosher, China does respond to pressure -- and that, he says, is the one remaining remedy to bring about change.

Elderly Couple Forced into State Custody

DALLAS - They’re not criminals. They’ve broken no laws. But they’re being held against their will by the State of Texas. Why? It’s a tragic story about what can happen when you are alone in the world and lose control of your rights, your money, and your ability to complain.

Jean and Michael Kidd never imagined their retirement would play out like this. “I feel like I am not in America,” said Michael Kidd. “I can’t believe I have been hi-jacked off the street, virtually from the hospital, and imprisoned,” Kidd told FOX 4.

Michael Kidd and his wife Jean have been living out of a tiny room for months. They have lost control of their money, their home, even their car. They say they’ve been robbed of their dignity and their voice. And who do they say is responsible? The State of Texas.

“It is a shock to our system,” says Kidd. “We are still kind of in a state of shock,” Kidd told Reporter Becky Oliver.

Michael Kidd worked as an engineer at KDFW for 23 years. He retired in 2001 with a pension, retirement account, and social security. Last month, he called the station for help. The Kidds have no children or relatives nearby. In November Michael fell and broke his hip. He was taken to a Plano hospital and into surgery. After a few days, the hospital called the state Adult Protective Services to report Jean had been in the waiting room for days and wasn’t eating. What happened next is a complicated, legal tale told in hundreds of pages of documents filed with the Collin County Probate Court.

Caseworkers paint a picture of two incompetent old people, age 67 and 70, suffering from dementia. Reports say the Kidds have mismanaged their finances and used poor judgment, that Michael is verbally abusive and even attempted to assault Jean. Michael says Jean has memory trouble but denies everything else. A judge determined the Kidds were incapacitated and unable to care for themselves. The state took over the Kidds lives, sent them to the Countryside Nursing Home in Pilot Point, and is now burning through their money to pay for their care. MORE>>>>>>>>>

Obamacare Supporter bites off man's finger!

An opponent of government healthcare programs had part of a finger bit off during a fight at a pro-healthcare-reform rally this week in Thousand Oaks.

William Rice, 65, of Newbury Park was with a small group of counter-protesters at a vigil Wednesday night organized by Moveon.org when a man bit off part of his left pinky finger during a scuffle, authorities said. Doctors were unable to reattach Rice’s finger.

Sheriff’s detectives Thursday were still looking for the man who bit Rice. Investigators also were sifting through conflicting accounts of the incident, but Rice acknowledged that he threw the first punch.

Broun warns of dictatorship Congressman stays on message - freedom at risk

View Image

MADISON - U.S. Rep. Paul Broun is again raising the specter of Democrats turning the United States into a totalitarian state.

Broun, R-Athens, apparently has not changed his belief that President Obama may be a fascist since he made similar remarks in Augusta in November and then in an Associated Press interview.

He told a meeting of the Morgan County Republicans on Wednesday night that Obama already has or will have the three things he needs to make himself a dictator: a national police force, gun control and control over the press.

"He has the three things that are necessary to establish an authoritarian government," Broun said. "And so we need to be ever-vigilant, because freedom is precious."

As he did when comparing Obama to Hitler and the Soviets last year, Broun cited a speech Obama gave in Colorado during the campaign last July calling for "a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the military.

In the speech, Obama called young Americans to serve both at home and abroad, and said he would expand the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps and other volunteer opportunities. Broun, however, said Obama was referring to a national police force.

"'The liberals say, 'What is wrong with Americorps?' " Broun said. "Well, this is not Americorps."

Health care reform means more power for the IRS

A sign identifies the Internal Revenue Service building on Constitution Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., Jan (Bloomberg: Dennis Brack) (Bloomberg)

There's been a lot of discussion about the new and powerful federal agencies that would be created by the passage of a national health care bill. The Health Choices Administration, the Health Benefits Advisory Committee, the Health Insurance Exchange — there are dozens in all.

But if the plan envisioned by President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats is enacted, the primary federal bureaucracy responsible for implementing and enforcing national health care  will be an old and familiar one: the Internal Revenue Service. Under the Democrats' health care proposals, the already powerful — and already feared — IRS would wield even more power and extend its reach even farther into the lives of ordinary Americans, and the presidentially-appointed head of the new health care bureaucracy would have access to confidential IRS information about millions of individual taxpayers.

In short, health care reform, as currently envisioned by Democratic leaders, would be built on the foundation of an expanded and more intrusive IRS.

Under the various proposals now on the table, the IRS would become the main agency for determining who has an "acceptable" health insurance plan; for finding and punishing those who don't have such a plan; for subsidizing individual health insurance costs through the issuance of a tax credits; and for enforcing the rules on those who attempt to opt out, abuse, or game the system. A substantial portion of H.R. 3200, the House health care bill, is devoted to amending the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 in order to give the IRS the authority to perform these new duties.

North Korea says in last stage of enriching uranium

Photo

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Friday that it was in the final stage of enriching uranium, a process that would give it a second path to making a nuclear weapon.

After a series of conciliatory gestures by the North over the past month, the announcement raises the stakes in efforts by the international community to convince the reclusive state to give up its nuclear weapons programme.

"Experimental uranium enrichment has successfully been conducted to enter into completion phase," the KCNA news agency quoted North Korea's United Nations delegation as saying in a letter to the head of the U.N. Security Council (UNSC).

The North has already tested two plutonium-based nuclear devices, the one in May triggering tightened international sanctions.

The Unites States has long suspected that the North has a secret programme to enrich uranium for weapons. Experts have said it has not developed anything near a full scale enrichment programme.

The North said its latest moves were in response to tighter sanctions.

"We are prepared for both dialogue and sanctions. If some permanent members of the UNSC wish to put sanctions first before dialogue, we would respond with bolstering our nuclear deterrence first before we meet them in a dialogue."

How 20 popular websites looked when they launched

Remember the days when the word Google was not interchangeable with internet? Or when every site seemed to have a Netscape icon on it? Or when Flash was still something you cleaned your floor with? Then you were clearly using the web in the mid to late 1990s when pages were rudimentary affairs containing lists of links and information.

Thanks to the waybackmachine internet archive, we're still able to see some of the Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 pioneers looked in their earliest incarnations.

1. google.com - launched in 1996

2. facebook.com - launched in 2004
