WASHINGTON – When Turkey’s semi-official newspaper Yeni Safak called for urgent action in forming a 57-nation “Army of Islam” to besiege and attack Israel, a suggestion undoubtedly approved with at least a wink and nod by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it would signal the possible intent to create the largest military force on the planet – one nearly as large as the total population of the Jewish state.
The report came just ahead of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and was published under the headline, “What if an Army of Islam was formed against Israel?” It was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute.
But it wasn’t a rhetorical question. It was actually a suggestion to combine the military forces of all Islamic countries to overwhelm the Israeli army in manpower, budget and equipment – even boasting with statistics.

The world's second-largest economy has responded to President Donald Trump's controversial trade tariffs.
China's commerce ministry proposed a list of 128 U.S. products as potential retaliation targets, according to a statement on its websiteposted Friday morning.
The U.S. goods, which had an import value of $3 billion in 2017, include wine, fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts, steel pipes, modified ethanol, and ginseng, the ministry said. Those products could see a 15 percent duty, while a 25 percent tariff could be imposed on U.S. pork and recycled aluminium goods, according to the statement.
The statement did not go into greater detail. U.S. agricultural products, particularly soybeans, have been flagged as the biggest area of potential retaliation by Chinese President Xi Jinping's administration.

The horrifying moment bridge collapsed in Florida

A video taken on the dashcam of a car as it approached Miami's FIU bridge seconds before it collapsed last week has captured the moment it fell down on traffic, revealing that there was a worker on top of it at the time.
The footage shows the man working on the top left corner of the bridge as cars passed beneath it.
When it suddenly collapsed, the man was thrown into the air then fell among the rubble.
It is not clear if the man is Navarro Brown, a 37-year-old employee of Structural Technologies VSL, who was working at the site and was among the six killed, or if others were there and walked away injured.
The footage also reveals how stunned motorists and passengers in vehicles which hadn't yet reached the structure rushed to help after the accident.
The bridge was behind schedule and over budget at the time.
An official cause for the collapse is yet to be given but engineers were examining a crack in one side of it at the time.

This story begins years ago, when, after serving in the U.S. Navy during Desert Shield, I was a member of the Naval Research Advisory Committee. At that time, around 1993, I had the opportunity to meet with a former colleague of mine who was the lead researcher assigned to figuring out the truth of Gulf War Syndrome (GWS). Initially, it was thought the disorder was most likely due to stress. They decided this because of the strange and variable manifestations of the disease, and the fact that both victims and non-victims appeared to have the same exposures to environment and to vaccines. Also, although, most GWS victims were reservists, most in-theater personnel were full active duty members with more environmental exposure. So, they reasoned at the time, the stress of being unexpectedly jerked out of private life into a combat zone played a causative role in GWS.

Johnny Appleseed: More than just an apple enthusiast

Seventy years old, he visited his friend William Worth one evening, ate some milk and bread, read out loud from the Bible, laid down on the floor to sleep and never woke up. This was how John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, died on March 18, 1845.
Johnny Appleseed’s father, Nathaniel Chapman, was a Minuteman who fought the British at Concord in 1775 and served in the Continental Army under George Washington.
The apple originated in Central Asia and spread east to China, which is still the largest grower of apples in the world. Alexander the Great saw apples in Central Asia. He had some apples sent back to Macedonia in 328 BC, where they were cultivated and gradually spread across Europe. In the 1600s, colonists brought apples to North America, with the first apple orchard being planted in 1625 by Rev. William Blaxton in Boston.
Johnny Appleseed collected seeds from apple cider presses in western Pennsylvania. Johnny Appleseed may have spent time on Grant’s Hill in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1794 at the time of the Whiskey Rebellion. He planted orchards and nurseries from the Alleghenies to central Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, giving thousands of seedlings to westward bound pioneers.
Johnny Appleseed lived nomadic life at harmony with Indians, bringing them medicinal plants. Native Americans, even hostile ones, considered him touched by the Great Spirit, and became converted.

Florida bridge funded by 'shoddy' Obama program

On Twitter, President Trump is being blamed for wanting to build a wall while “our infrastructures are falling apart, for going out of his way to loosen building regulations and passing a tax-cut bill instead of doing “some REAL work for the country.”
While it’s too early to determine the causes of the tragic accident, which killed at least six people, Reason magazine assistant editor Christian Britschgi points out in a column Friday that, if anything, President Obama’s fingerprints are on it.
Installed only last Saturday, the bridge, she writes, was funded with $11.4 million from a federal grant program that has been criticized for a shoddy review process that puts politics ahead of technical and safety concerns.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER program, was created as an economic stimulus measure under Obama and morphed into a permanent program, wrote Britschgi.
The program has awarded $5.6 billion in nine rounds of grants since 2009.
FIU received the money for the bridge in round five, or TIGER V, in 2013. It was among 52 projects that used a methodology that later was criticized by the Government Accountability Office for violating U.S. Department of Transportation standards.
The bridge was installed using a new method called “accelerated bridge construction,” or ABC, which was meant to minimize traffic delays and risk to workers.
At the time of its installation Saturday, FIU’s Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center boasted of the new project and the method of construction.
“This project is an outstanding example of the ABC method,” said Atorod Azizinamini, the center’s director, in a press release.

“No,” Torres responded in the Sunday tweet. “You realize fetuses can’t scream, right? I transect the (vocal) cord 1st so that there’s really no opportunity, if they’re even far enough along to have a larynx.”

On December 12, 2017, ahead of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak, which is close to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling AKP party, published an article titled "A Call for Urgent Action,"[1] which also appeared on the paper's website under the title “What If an Army of Islam Was Formed against Israel?"[2] The article called on the 57 member states of the OIC to form a joint "Army of Islam" to besiege and attack the state of Israel. It notes that such a joint army will greatly exceed the Israeli army in manpower, equipment and budget, and presents statistics to prove this. It also advocates establishing joint bases for the army's ground, air and naval forces that will arrive from all over the Muslim world to besiege Israel, while noting that Pakistan, as the only nuclear country, has "a special status" among the OIC countries. An interactive map provides information on military forces stationed in various locations and the role they can play in the potential joint Muslim attack on Israel.

Cell phone radiation could pose a risk of certain cancers to some, the preliminary findings of two new major studies from the National Institutes Health suggest.
Six percent of male rats exposed to the same kind of radiation our cell phones emit - though in much larger quantities - developed a type of cancer called a schwannoma in their hearts.
The pair of studies are the largest the National Toxicology Program has ever conducted about the carcinogenic effects of cell phone radiation.
The authors caution that while much more research is needed to find out whether or not the ways that average people use cell phones could raise cancer risks, the findings highlight an 'area of concern'.
Over the course of the last two years, researchers at the National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have been exposing rats and mice to varying levels of cell phone radio frequency radiation.

The new theory, backed up by seismic data suggest that water is stored in the transition zone of Earth’s mantle.
It is thought to host minerals called ringwoodite and wadsleyite that can store water like a sponge.
If water does exists in huge volumes beneath Earth's crust, it is bound to have a big impact on the mechanics of volcanoes and the movement of tectonic plates.
The evidence comes from a water-loving mineral called ringwoodite that came from the so-called transition zone sandwiched between the upper and lower layers of Earth's mantle, they said in the journal Nature.
Analysis shows that 1.5% of the rock comprises molecules of water.
The find backs once-contested theories that the transition zone, or at least significant parts of it, is water-rich, the investigators said.
'This sample really provides extremely strong confirmation that there are local wet spots deep in the Earth in this area,' said Graham Pearson of Canada's University of Alberta, who led the research.
'That particular zone in the Earth, the transition zone, might have as much water as all the world's oceans put together.'

Apollo 13 was the seventh manned mission in the Apollo space program and the third intended to land on the Moon. The craft was launched on April 11, 1970 at 13:13 (military time) or 1:13. However fate happened and the lunar landing was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded two days later, crippling the Service Module (SM) upon which the Command Module (CM) had depended. Despite great hardship caused by limited power, loss of cabin heat, shortage of potable water, and the critical need to make makeshift repairs to the carbon dioxide removal system, the crew returned safely to Earth on April 17, 1970, six days after launch. The mission was commanded by James A. Lovell with John L. "Jack" Swigert as Command Module Pilot and Fred W. Haise as Lunar Module Pilot. Swigert was a late replacement for the original CM pilot Ken Mattingly, who was grounded by the flight surgeon after exposure to German measles. The oxygen tank explosion happened on the 13th of April. Yes the number 13 is all around the mission. We all know the story, Tom Hank's memorable Apollo 13 movie was a smash hit, but was a message from God hidden into the mission? Superstition? No. A coincidence? Maybe...... I’ve been tracking the connection since 1999, when I wrote a long white paper, for the Truth Seeker Foundation, on school shootings and psychiatric drugs. The paper was titled: “Why Do They Do It? School shootings Across America.”
The drugs aren’t the only causative factor, but they produce what I call the Johnny Appleseed effect throughout society. Sprinkle enough of the drugs among enough people and you get otherwise unexplainable violence popping up—in schools, in workplaces. The psychiatric plague eats out the country from the inside.

The massacre at Columbine High School took place on April 20, 1999. Astonishingly, for eight days after the tragedy, during thousands of hours of prime-time television coverage, virtually no one mentioned the word “drugs.” Then the issue was opened. Eric Harris, one of the shooters at Columbine, was on at least one drug.
The NY Times of April 29, 1999, and other papers reported that Harris was rejected from enlisting in the Marines for medical reasons. A friend of the family told the Times that Harris was being treated by a psychiatrist. And then several sources told the Washington Post that the drug prescribed as treatment was Luvox, manufactured by Solvay.

Q. After a routine check-up by my GP, I was told blood tests indicated I was suffering from chronic kidney disease. I was totally shocked – but the doctor said I shouldn’t worry, just to get on with life, and that about ten per cent of his patients had this. I was in and out in ten minutes. I’m now Googling the condition and feel worried and confused.
A. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a tricky problem for doctors and patients, not least because of its name. Calling something a disease when in fact it affects ten per cent of the UK population is of course going to cause anxiety and worry unnecessarily in well people.
In fact, half of people aged 75 or more have some degree of CKD so it could actually be seen as a normal part of the ageing process rather than a disease.
Essentially it means the kidneys are ageing and their function to remove waste and control blood pressure is less efficient than before.

In a landmark case, the Solna District Court has acquitted an Iraqi man suspected of abusing wife by pushing her against furniture, pulling her hair and hitting her face with a shoe. In addition to stressing that the man “came from a good family,” unlike the woman, the court ruled that the fact that the woman turned to the police instead of the husband’s family “further” undermined her credibility. ..... To remember which way to set your watch, keep in mind “spring forward, fall back”. You set your clock forward in the spring when DST starts (= lose one hour), and back one hour when DST ends in the fall (= regain one hour).

Many countries in the Northern Hemisphere (north of the equator) observe DST, but not all. Daylight saving time is in use between March and April and ends between September and November as the countries return to Standard Time.

In the Southern Hemisphere (south of the equator) the participating countries start DST between September and November and ends between March and April. Standard time begins in the southern hemisphere between March–April and ends between September–November.
Why use DST at all?
Many countries use DST to make better use of the natural daylight in the evenings, and many don't. The difference in light is most noticable in the areas close to the Poles, i.e. furthest away from the Earth's equator.
Some studies show that DST could lead to fewer road accidents and injuries by supplying more daylight during the hours more people use the roads. Other studies claim that people's health might suffer due to DST changes.
DST is also used to reduce the amount of energy needed for artificial lighting during the evening hours. However,many studies disagree about DST's energy savings and while some studies show a positive outcome, others do not.

US inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin first proposed the concept of DST in 1784, but modern Daylight Saving Time first saw the light of day, in 1895 when an entomologist from New Zealand, George Vernon Hudson, presented a proposal for a two-hour daylight saving shift. However,
Germany was the first country to implement DST on April 30, 1916 when the clocks were set forward at 11 pm (23:00).

Experiment Demonstrates The Deadly Power Of Social Compliance

In his 1974 book, Obedience to Authority: An Experimental View, Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram discusses in detail the findings of his now famous experiment. Milgram demonstrated just how easy it is to convince an ordinary person to commit torture and murder under the instruction of an authority figure.
Intrigued by the role of Nazi military personnel in concentration camps during WWII, Milgram wanted to know how much coercion people needed in order to willingly inflict harm on another person.
He asked volunteers to deliver an electric shock to a stranger. Unbeknownst to the volunteers, there was no shock—and the people they were shocking were actors pretending to be terribly hurt, even feigning heart attacks. Milgram found that most people would keep delivering the shocks when ordered by a person in a lab coat, even when they believed that person was gravely injured. The suggested conclusion is that people are inherently unable to think for themselves when given a subordinate role in some authoritarian hierarchy, such as the role of the ordinary citizen in a State-controlled world. A documentary of this experiment can be seen here.
The Milgram study was controversial in that some felt the results were skewed in favor of a predetermined bias. In the fifty-plus years since the experiment, there have been no other major research studies to confirm Milgram’s findings. Nevertheless, the presumption that normal people will go as far as to commit murder if they are relieved of responsibility by an authority figure feels inherently truthful in a world of so many organized atrocities.

The RAPTURE? Don't bet your life on it

Sometime ago I listened to a very charismatic and famous personality talking about an extra ordinarily popular doctrine in contemporary Christian circles. He related to the interviewer that at any moment he and many others will be raptured away and the world would then be plunged in a tribulation for seven years.

After the commercial break, he went on to relate that Jesus would come and there would be a Millennium of peace here on planet earth. I wondered to myself, 'how do you reconcile the two?' I thoroughly searched the Bible, but could not find such a scenario.
Some further research led me to the source of such a teaching. Amazingly, it was developed some five hundred years ago, long after the Bible was written. There was a specific purpose for its formulation and proclamation. Needless to say, it has achieved its goal with resounding success.
Fortunately, Jesus Christ had warned against such falsehood some two thousand years ago. Learn more.
