The Plain Truth: Why there is still a Monarch in Britain. It was a promise God made to David!
July 11, 2022
Many of us were home watching the 70th anniversary of the Queen of England becoming the Monarch. You might have noticed the pomp and circumstance surrounding The Platinum Jubilee celebration and wondered what it is all for? The world is totally unaware of the real reason why this is big news. This milestone is actually news straight from the Bible and the fulfillment of God’s promises!
When Queen Elizabeth II became queen in 1953, she was crowned and seated on a very old throne. Beneath her royal bottom sits a stone known as the Stone of Destiny. It is fascinating to know that King Edward captured this ancient block of sandstone from the people of Scotland in 1296. He then commanded that a special coronation chair be built to enclose the stone. To understand the journey of this stone even before Edward is important to its significance. In Scotland around 840 AD, the 36th King of Dalriada named Kenneth I united the Scots and Pictish kingdoms and moved his capital to Scone, from western Scotland. The Stone of Destiny was moved there, too. All future Scottish kings would henceforth be enthroned on the Stone of Destiny atop Moot Hill at Scone Palace in Perthshire.
Unfortunately, even the British population today do not know about significance of the coronation chair and the Stone of Destiny. The Plain Truth is that our Almighty God is behind this chair and behind the monarchy in England. You see, this stone dates to biblical times and it is the same stone which Jacob used as a pillow at Bethel when he had dreams of a stairway to heaven! Later, it became the pedestal of the ark in the Temple. The stone was brought from Syria to Egypt by King Gathelus who then fled to Spain following the defeat of the Egyptian army. A descendant of Gathelus brought the stone to Ireland and was crowned on it as the King of Ireland; from Ireland, the stone moved with the invading Scots to Argyll in Scotland.
Why is this stone important to us today? God made a promise to King David that He would always have an heir on the Throne of Israel! King Saul, then David, followed by Solomon and every monarch of Israel after was crowned over this holy rock because of this very promise!
Israel is not the name of the Jewish state in the Bible; it was called the nation of Judah. The name Israel belonged to the tribe of Joseph which became two tribes and after the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians, the Stone of Destiny was moved to Egypt.
Nebuchadnezzar killed all the males in the line of David thinking he could put an end to the promise God made to David, but he could not. The king's daughter was taken to Egypt for protection!
From Egypt, the Stone of Destiny made its journey to Sicily and Spain, finally reaching Ireland in about 700 BC. At that time the stone was set up on the Hill of Tara where the kings of Ireland were crowned.
The British royal line is the continuation of the throne of King David of the ancient "United Kingdom" of Israel and Judah. An examination of the genealogies of those kings clearly shows their descent from that royal line. The Lord made a covenant with King David, which was not conditional on David's continued righteousness. The Lord stated:
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
Thy seed will I establish forever, and build up thy throne to all generations. . . .
His seed also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
If his children forsake my law and walk not in my judgments;
If they break my statutes and keep not my commandments;
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me.
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. (Psalms 89:3-4, 20-37)
The Lord promised that David would rule as king over Israel forever. If his descendants became wicked, then they could bring calamity on themselves and their subjects, but the promise of their kingly line would continue. That's an amazing prophecy. All it would take to break it is for the monarchy be overthrown or have no royal descendant who could inherit the throne.
The royal line from David to this present day continues and is unbroken!
Again, we are explicitly told in the Bible that the daughters of Zedekiah were taken to Egypt along with the prophet Jeremiah and others (Jer. 43:6).
There Jeremiah prophesied that all those who fled to Egypt would also be killed, except a few who should escape (Jer. 44:1-14).
That is where the Biblical story of Jeremiah ends, except for the hint that Jeremiah's mission was not only to tear down, but also to plant (Jer. 1:10).
Where did Jeremiah do his planting? And where was the new kingdom described in the parable given to Ezekiel, where a "tender twig," cut from the highest branch of the high cedar, would be planted, and grow into a great kingdom, and that the lower tree would be exalted above the upper? (Ezek. 17:22-24) That planting was from the Holy land to Ireland, Scotland, and Britain!
Truly, there has always been a monarch in the line of David on the very stone that Jesus will sit on! Yes, Jesus’ destiny is to sit upon this eternal Throne (see Luke 1:32 and Acts 2:25-30), from which He will rule the nations and the cosmos.
Many have wanted to do away with the Monarchy – and here is the Plain Truth why it is still with us today!
