Do you believe in Freedom or Democracy?

A commentary by Bob Barney
Do you believe in democracy? What form of government is the United States? Is it a democracy, a Republic, or something else that unfortunately has been lost in the past few generations? Constitutionally speaking, America is what is called a "constitutional Republic form of democracy.” We are not as many scholars understand, a purely democratic society. Our forefathers knew that democracies can never last more than a few generations and that the only hope of our government to survive many generations was to form a public form of government. This begs the question, what were they trying to protect? What was the founding principle of our way of life that our forefathers wanted to preserve, protect, and maintain? We see that it was a democratic form of government. So is the Republic of the United States of America the end means of what the founding fathers were attempting to create back in 1789? No, friends, the most important principle to the founding of this nation is a biblical principle which you probably are unaware of. The word “democracy” or "Republic” is not found in the Bible. We all know the Bible is God's word to us and we know what was brought forth in the Gospel of Jesus Christ was concerning a coming Kingdom of God. This Kingdom would occur on earth upon his return at the end of this age. Christ died for our sins--many know this, but in addition, do you know what else Christ bought for us with His death? He brought us freedom. Freedom from sin, freedom from the devil, and freedom from the penalty of death by his resurrection! (see: Freedom and the Bible)
Freedom is at the heart of the gospel that Jesus taught, and freedom was what the founders of this nation were attempting to preserve with a constitution that they fought over and ratified in 1789.
Jer 34:17 | ¶ |
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth. |
It wasn't a democracy that our leaders were attempting to create; nor even a Republic form of government - or for that fact, any particular form of government in general. Our forefather's did not really care about the welfare of the people, that led them to meet in 1789 to draw up a new government. It was personal freedom that our forefathers were trying to protect, something they fought to protect in the Revolution. Too many people think that democracy is worth fighting for and that democracy is the goal that we should be looking forward to achieving. Do you know what democracy is? Democracy is three people and two agree on killing the third. That is democracy! Do you want to fight and give your life up for that? A Republic form of democracy is when the same three people vote for one of the three to represent them who is given the power to decide to kill one of the other two! Is this what you're willing to die for? Is this why we should go to war in the Middle East or the far reaches of the world in order to protect democracy or Republic form of government? No, what our founding fathers envisioned was personal liberty based on the proposition that our freedoms are not to be infringed upon or taken away by some law, person, or government--be a democratic one or not. Individual rights and personal freedoms are the cornerstone of what this nation stands for, or should I say, stood for.
We have been lied to. Our schools and our media and our leaders have convinced us that democracy is worth dying for! Nothing could be further from the truth. This is one of the biggest propaganda lies that you have embraced without thinking through the consequences. Our great nation is built upon the fact that the majority cannot take away the God-given rights of an individual. Our Constitution insures that you and I have the right to practice freedom. Whether that be freedom from our neighbor or our government, and that no law passed which abridges our freedom is constitutional or biblical. Look at the link below and see what God thinks about freedom and about personal liberty and about the right to choose right from wrong without the interference of God or the government. Yes, there are consequences for breaking God's laws but we have the right and the freedom to choose in any government that tries to take this right away from us. For when it is no longer the government our founding fathers gave us, it will not longer be the government God continues to protect.
If I can only convince my readers of one thing, it would be that the assault on personal liberties by our government of both parties, but especially the Democrats, will end up resulting in fulfilled prophecy of Leviticus 26--America will end up going into captivity losing its democracy, Republic, and most of all, personal freedom. Wake up and stand for freedom, be willing to die for freedom and understand what freedom really means. May God bless you and open your eyes to see the road we are on today and where it will end if we do not act.
