'Smart' technology has been weaponized against us

By Patrice Lewis

image from external-content.duckduckgo.com
It's no secret that I loathe smart technology. I cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone would voluntarily purchase something that monitors everything they do and reports it back to some central location. As the saying goes, "There is no Cloud. There's just someone else's computer." It's one of the many reasons my husband and I never owned smartphones and never will.

So when I saw this headline, I must admit I gave a little fist-pump and a cry of "Yes!!" According to ZeroHedge, "Dumb phone sales are soaring as people revolt against 'overwhelming' smartphones." Isn't that the best news you've heard all day?

The article focuses on the inexpensive nature of dumb phones as well as the nostalgia factor, but who cares? In my opinion, the more people who dump the invasive "eye of Sauron in your pocket," the better.

BREAKING- MUSKS OWNS TWITTER

Elon Musk could seize Twitter TODAY as talks reach 'final stages'

Elon Musk is closing in on seizing Twitter as talks between the Tesla magnate and the tech giant entered their final stages, reports say. The billionaire could take over the company as soon as this morning as the board reportedly looked set to accept his offer of $54.20 per share. The tycoon's representatives were said to be hammering out terms including a timeline and fees if an agreement was signed and then fell apart. The two sides were reportedly working into the early morning to finalize the 'fluid and fast-moving' negotiations. Twitter shares soared by four per cent as the markets opened to $50.84 a share amid reports it would be seized by Musk. It comes a fortnight after the entrepreneur first sought to woo shareholders with his $54.20-per-share bid.

Major trade groups from key industries are warning that potentially disastrous consequences could result from telecommunications networks phasing out 3G wireless service.

AT&T began shutting down 3G service Tuesday, the first major network to do so with Verizonand T-Mobile soon will be.

A major trade group representing the alarm industry urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday to delay shutting down 3G service, arguing that doing so could potentially force millions of alarm devices to go offline. (RELATED: Gigi Sohn’s Time At A Shuttered Streaming Service Could Sink Her Nomination)

“I basically told the White House that you were worried about planes falling out of the sky. How about people dying in their homes?” John Brady, spokesman of the Alarm Industry Communications Committee, told Axios. “Because that’s what’s going to happen. They’re going to think that their device works, they’re going to hit the button, and it’s not going to go anywhere.”

The School Superintendents Union and National Association for Pupil Transportation claimed in an FCC Feb. 14 filing that “upwards of five to ten percent of all public school buses across the country will lose GPS and communications service” if AT&T shuts down service.

Drudge finally 'cancels' WND

Note: Drudge's fate and whereabouts are unknown..........

DrudgeI swear, the five massive strokes I experienced in 2019 were in part due to the tremendous pressure I was under as my business crumbled. Matt Drudge apparently cracked up, too. I know for a fact he has passed the baton and is definitely not "running the show." And, who knows what happened to the late Andrew Breitbart?

It was a good ride.

Drudge and WND. Matt Drudge and Joseph Farah.

They started the internet's news revolution together, friendly and daring, 24 years ago. It took one day, April 26, 2021, to drop the original name, WorldNetDaily, and all links from drudgereport.com. That's when Drudge – or whoever is calling the shots at the DrudgeReport – finally "canceled" WND.

Drudge had a great sense of humor. One day he called me with an idea. He loved Jerome Corsi's new book in 2011 – "Where's the Birth Certificate?" He told me he was going to tease it with a shameless display on his website, pointing to its No. 1 position on Amazon. You might remember he was not afraid of anything or anybody then – not even Barack Obama.

I knew what that would mean: Obama was going to have to RELEASE an actual birth certificate – real or fabricated!

Sure enough, he did. That was the first time I saw the media close ranks against me. They did it with reckless abandon. The most amazing shot across the bow came from Esquire magazine, owned by Hearst, my old employer – in which the "reporter" made up the whole imaginary story about my pulling the Corsi book from bookshelves. It's still there at Amazon 10 years later to make my point. (After the story initially went up, Esquire posted an "update" hoping to cover for its fraud.)

We sued the magazine and received a 2-1 loss before the U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia, Nov. 26, 2013.

But it wasn't the end of the birth certificate story.

Perkins Coie, the international law firm, played "fixer" for Obama. They "found" the birth certificate that could not be found even by the governor of Hawaii. They also showed up later to pull another rabbit out of a hat in directing Joe Biden's "victory" in the 2020 election. You'll be hearing from them again. They're in solid with Obama and Biden.......

MyPillow guy announces brand-new social-media platform

Business Insider reported Lindell announced in an interview on Friday on Charlie Kirk's podcast that the site could launch within a month.

He was deplatformed by Twitter and others for claiming he had evidence of vote fraud and mismanagement in the 2020 presidential election.

"We're launching this big platform so all the voices of our country can come back and start telling it like it is again," he explained. "You will not need YouTube. You won't need these places. So it will be where everything can be told, because we've got to get our voices back."

He released a two-hour video documentary titled "Absolute Proof" making the case that vote fraud affected the outcome of the election. It's available on a website Lindell created.

Yes, really.

Dominic Bettinelli wanted to run a test because two of his priest friends had been punished for posting the quote, only for him to also receive a message that he had violated Facebook’s “Community Standards on hate speech”.

The digital cemetery: When Facebook controls our history

Graphic Studio, France Médias Monde | According to projections from a study by the Oxford Internet Institute, the number of Facebook profiles of deceased people will exceed that of the living at the earliest in 50 years.

The number of Facebook profiles of people who have died may exceed the number of living profiles in just 50 years, according to a new study. As such, the social network could become the keeper of a significant part of humanity’s memory.

The dead will one day take over Facebook. In 50 years, if not sooner, there will likely be more profiles of deceased people than of living users on the social network, according to a study published online by the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) on April 27.

Your "Anonymous" Web Browsing History Totally Isn’t

image from encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.comYou might think you’re pretty good at making sure you don’t share your internet life with the entire world. You use Facebook’s strictest privacy settings, don’t share anything sensitive on Twitter, and you regularly trash your laptop’s browsing history. All good, right? Nope. All that “anonymized” data you leave behind out in the ether is still totally you, and it’s far easier than you think to make it paint your picture and yours alone.Journalist Svea Eckert and data scientist Andreas Dewes, both from Germany, wanted to find out just how easy it was to acquire and identify your web browsing history. And so, as The Guardian reports, they did just that. The pair presented their findings recently at the annual Def Con hacker conference in Las Vegas.

Acquiring the data

The two were easily able to acquire a database holding more than 3 billion visited web addresses. That data, in turn, comprised about 9 million unique sites visited by roughly 3 million users, all in Germany.
The data clearly showed the light users — those who visited only a few dozen sites over a 30-day span — from the heavy users, those who had tens of thousands of data points sitting there to be examined.

Eckert and Dewes didn’t even have to pay for the data access, they said. What they did do was create a fake marketing company: They launched a website for the company and a LinkedIn page for its fake CEO.

RELATED: Study: “Anonymous” Credit Card Data Is Actually Completely Identifiable

That fake marketing company claimed to have developed a machine learning algorithm that could improve marketers’ tactics… but only if it was trained with a large amount of data. (This is common: machine learning depends on finding and exploiting patterns, and you need a whole crapton of data points in order to identify those patterns in a meaningful way.).  In short, they used the fake company to go begging. “We wrote and called nearly a hundred companies, and asked if we could have the raw data, the clickstream from people’s lives,” Eckert said.   It took longer than they expected — but only because they were specifically targeting Germany. “We often heard: ‘Browsing data? That’s no problem. But we don’t have it for Germany, we only have it for the US and UK,’” she said.

Eventually, one data broker was willing to help them “test” their “data platform,” and parted with the data trove for free.

‘THE SMOKING GUN’: Google Manipulated YouTube Search Results for Abortion, Maxine Waters, David Hogg

In sworn testimony, Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Congress last month that his company does not “manually intervene” on any particular search result. Yet an internal discussion thread leaked to Breitbart News reveals Google regularly intervenes in search results on its YouTube video platform – including a recent intervention that pushed pro-life videos out of the top ten search results for “abortion.”

The term “abortion” was added to a “blacklist” file for “controversial YouTube queries,” which contains a list of search terms that the company considers sensitive. According to the leak, these include some of these search terms related to: abortion, abortions, the Irish abortion referendum, Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and anti-gun activist David Hogg.

The existence of the blacklist was revealed in an internal Google discussion thread leaked to Breitbart News by a source inside the company who wishes to remain anonymous. A partial list of blacklisted terms was also leaked to Breitbart by another Google source.

In the leaked discussion thread, a Google site reliability engineer hinted at the existence of more search blacklists, according to the source.

“We have tons of white- and blacklists that humans manually curate,” said the employee. “Hopefully this isn’t surprising or particularly controversial.”

Others were more concerned about the presence of the blacklist. According to the source, the software engineer who started the discussion called the manipulation of search results related to abortion a “smoking gun.”

The software engineer noted that the change had occurred following an inquiry from a left-wing Slate journalist about the prominence of pro-life videos on YouTube, and that pro-life videos were replaced with pro-abortion videos in the top ten results for the search terms following Google’s manual intervention.

Does Google spy on you for NSA? Judge says, 'None of your business'

This is from OCTOBER 2011!   The Plain Truth was warning about NSA spying on all America, and ran the following story about the coverup! : Bob Barney

October 13, 2011

Forward: Readers of The Plain Truth know about my theory concerning Microsoft, Google and other "overnight success" businesses, where college kids make billions overnight with flawed products.  For example, Microsoft Windows never works, crashes every day. My theory is that these businesses are really "shell" companies for the USA and the CIA to spy on everyone! Google, (Government Ooggling) is a great example of this theory. This recent news story adds some more fuel to my theory... (Bob Barney- The Plain Truth)

A federal judge has ordered that whether Google is spying for National Security Agency or not, you have no right to know.

"The NSA need not disclose 'the organization or any function of the National Security Agency, [or] any information with respect to the activities thereof,'" U.S. District Judged Richard Leon has ordered.

"Once the agency, through affidavits, has created 'as complete a public record as is possible' and explained 'in as much detail as is possible the basis for its claim,' … 'the court is not to conduct a detailed inquiry to decide whether it agrees with the agency's opinions,'" he said.

The demand for information had been raised by the Electronic Privacy Information Center, which said the ruling would be appealed.

WILL THE INTERNET LISTEN TO YOUR PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS?

Big brotherSAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Like a lot of teenagers, Aanya Nigam reflexively shares her whereabouts, activities and thoughts on Twitter, Instagram and other social networks without a qualm.

But Aanya's care-free attitude dissolved into paranoia a few months ago shortly after her mother bought Amazon's Echo, a digital assistant that can be set up in a home or office to listen for various requests, such as for a song, a sports score, the weather, or even a book to be read aloud.

After using the Internet-connected device for two months, Aanya, 16, started to worry that the Echo was eavesdropping on conversations in her Issaquah, Washington, living room. So she unplugged the device and hid it in a place that her mother, Anjana Agarwal, still hasn't been able to find.

"I guess there is a difference between deciding to share something and having something captured by something that you don't know when it's listening," Agarwal said of her daughter's misgivings.

FCC approves plan to consider paid priority on Internet

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday voted in favor of advancing a proposal that could dramatically reshape the way consumers experience the Internet, opening the possibility of Internet service providers charging Web sites for higher-quality delivery of their content to American consumers.

The plan, approved in a three-to-two vote along party lines, could unleash a new economy on the Web where an Internet service provider such as Verizon would charge a Web site such as Netflix for the guarantee of flawless video streaming.

The proposal is not a final rule, but the vote on Thursday is a significant step forward on a controversial idea that has invited fierce opposition from consumer advocates, Silicon Valley heavyweights, and Democratic lawmakers. The FCC will now open the proposal to a total 120 days of public comment. Final rules, aimed for the end of the year, could be rewritten after the agency reviews the public comments.   Read More>>>>>>>>

Steve Jobs Is Watching You: Apple Seeking to Patent Spyware

It looks like Apple, Inc., is exploring a new business opportunity: spyware and what we're calling "traitorware." While users were celebrating the new jailbreaking and unlocking exemptions, Apple was quietly preparing to apply for a patent on technology that, among other things, would allow Apple to identify and punish users who take advantage of those exemptions or otherwise tinker with their devices. This patent application does nothing short of providing a roadmap for how Apple can — and presumably will — spy on its customers and control the way its customers use Apple products. As Sony-BMG learned, spying on your customers is bad for business. And the kind of spying enabled here is especially creepy — it's not just spyware, it's "traitorware," since it is designed to allow Apple to retaliate against you if you do something Apple doesn't like.

Essentially, Apple's patent provides for a device to investigate a user's identity, ostensibly to determine if and when that user is "unauthorized," or, in other words, stolen. More specifically, the technology would allow Apple to record the voice of the device's user, take a photo of the device's user's current location or even detect and record the heartbeat of the device's user. Once an unauthorized user is identified, Apple could wipe the device and remotely store the user's "sensitive data." Apple's patent application suggests it may use the technology not just to limit "unauthorized" uses of its phones but also shut down the phone if and when it has been stolen.   MORE: EFF

Verizon Wireless Said to Offer Apple iPhone in January 2011

Verizon Wireless customers: The wait for an iPhone may soon be over.

Verizon Wireless will begin selling Apple's (AAPL) iPhone early next year, opening up the wildly popular device to millions of new customers, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

Such a move would end Apple's exclusive arrangement with AT&T (T), which for three years has been the sole iPhone service provider.

The development would be a clear victory for Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier.

Verizon has clearly been coveting the iPhone, the hottest mobile device on the planet. Two months ago, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg said the iPhone will come to Verizon "eventually" -- the most direct comment from the company to date.

In late March, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is working on two new iPhone models for release this summer, including one that could be compatible with Verizon Wireless's CDMA network.

Without the iPhone, Verizon has made a big push to support Google (GOOG) Android mobile operating system, which is featured on several of the company's devices.

New Bill Gives Obama ‘Kill Switch’ To Shut Down The Internet

Government would have “absolute power” to seize control of the world wide web under Lieberman legislation

The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand President Obama a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive.

Lieberman has been pushing for government regulation of the Internet for years under the guise of cybersecurity, but this new bill goes even further in handing emergency powers over to the feds which could be used to silence free speech under the pretext of a national emergency.

“The legislation says that companies such as broadband providers, search engines or software firms that the US Government selects “shall immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed” by the Department of Homeland Security. Anyone failing to comply would be fined,” reports ZDNet’s Declan McCullagh.

The 197-page bill (PDF) is entitled Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, or PCNAA.

Technology lobbying group TechAmerica warned that the legislation created “the potential for absolute power,” while the Center for Democracy and Technology worried that the bill’s emergency powers “include authority to shut down or limit internet traffic on private systems.”

The bill has the vehement support of Senator Jay Rockefeller, who last year asked during a congressional hearing, “Would it had been better if we’d have never invented the Internet?” while fearmongering about cyber-terrorists preparing attacks.

The largest Internet-based corporations are seemingly happy with the bill, primarily because it contains language that will give them immunity from civil lawsuits and also reimburse them for any costs incurred if the Internet is shut down for a period of time.

GOOGLE SPIED ON WI-FI-- YOU!

Google Inc. said an internal investigation has discovered that the roving vans the company uses to create its online mapping services were mistakenly collecting data about websites people were visiting over wireless networks.

The Internet giant said it would stop collecting Wi-Fi data from its StreetView vans, which workers drive to capture street images and to locate Wi-Fi networks. The company said it would dispose of the data it had accidentally collected.
